Overview

You have the right to permanently delete your RouteBook account and the personal data associated with it. This page explains the two ways to do it, what happens after you request deletion, and what data is retained (and why).

Option 1 — Delete from Inside the App (Fastest)

If you still have the RouteBook app installed on your phone, this is the quickest path. Deletion is immediate.

  1. Open the RouteBook app.
  2. Tap the Me tab (bottom-right of the tab bar).
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the profile screen.
  4. Tap Delete account.
  5. Confirm the action in the prompt.

Your account and associated data are removed from our systems within seconds. You will be signed out and returned to the sign-in screen.

Option 2 — Request Deletion by Email

If you no longer have the app installed, or you cannot access it, email us and we will process the deletion manually.

Send a deletion request

Email [email protected] with the subject line “Account Deletion Request”. Include the phone number used to register your account (in E.164 format, e.g. +14155551234) so we can locate and verify it.

Email [email protected]

We will confirm receipt within 2 business days and complete the deletion within 30 days of verification, per the timelines required by applicable privacy law (including CCPA and GDPR).

What Gets Deleted

When your account is deleted — whether via the in-app button or an email request — the following data is permanently removed from RouteBook’s systems:

Data category What’s deleted
Account credentials Phone number, authentication record, derived credentials
Profile Name, date of birth, profile photo, bio, ratings, trip counts
Route & ride data Posted routes, ride requests, saved shortcuts, route alerts, upcoming trip instances
Messages All in-app messages you sent or received, all conversation records
Identity verification Your status record (verified / not) is deleted from RouteBook. The underlying ID scans and selfie are stored by Stripe, not by RouteBook. See below on how to request Stripe to redact those separately.
Notification tokens APNS / FCM push tokens registered to your device
Session & auth data Access tokens, refresh tokens, sign-in history

What Is Retained (and Why)

A small amount of data may be retained after account deletion, only where a specific legal obligation or safety-integrity purpose requires it:

Retained data Reason Retention period
Reports filed about you by other users (if any) Trust & safety — prevents a banned user from returning by deleting and re-registering 2 years, then deleted
Aggregated, non-identifying analytics Operational metrics (e.g., total route-posts per month) — contains no way to trace back to you Indefinite
Server logs incidentally containing your user ID Debugging + security auditing 90 days, then rolled off automatically

Stripe Identity Data

Your government ID document and selfie were processed by Stripe, Inc. during identity verification. RouteBook receives only the verification result (verified / age-ineligible / etc.) and the document type — not the images themselves.

When you delete your RouteBook account, we delete our record of your verification status. However, Stripe retains the original document and selfie under Stripe’s own retention policy.

To have Stripe redact those files as well, submit a request directly to Stripe: https://support.stripe.com/contact.
